Our History

Edengrove has maintained a Gospel witness in Ballynahinch since 1770 when Presbyterians from Crossgar and Ballynahinch united to worship together at the junction of Main Street and High Street in the town. Our first minister was Rev. Thomas Dobbin Fryar who was ordained in 1774 marking the official beginning of the congregation. There have been numerous ministers since then and many stories to tell, but throughout our near 250 year history we have strived to proclaim Christ and Him crucified. We are but a small branch of Christ’s church who have known the Lord’s faithfulness for a quarter of a millennium. If you are interested in finding out more about Edengrove’s history we have a history book which is available for the cost of postage via the minister. We are also more than happy for you to use our church records for family research.
